Autumn Hollow Sanctuary
Animal & Earth Rescue

Make A Donation…
Make A Difference

Keeping Everybody Healthy And Happy

It is no easy task coming up with creative ways to fund a project such as Autumn Hollow Sanctuary. We have chosen not to register as a charity for a variety of reasons…and no, they do not include the idea of becoming rich by doing this. It always amazes us when people ask us if we are registered and when the answer is no, we are not…there is this look of suspicion…as though they are seeing some sort of animal racket going on in their mind’s eye. There we are at Autumn Hollow, they think…animals kept in chains and manacles, starving, while we drive around in a Porsche and travel to Monaco. Riviera here I come! HAH!
Sorry to disappoint all of the suspicious among you. We eat an awful lot of pasta around here and feeding the animals comes first. Our house is modest (I often wish it were a little less so) and we only drive one vehicle (though we are looking for a van to make pick-ups in and we wouldn’t dream of saying no to that being donated).
The main benefit of having official charity status would be that we would be enabled to issue a tax receipt to donors. We have had many generous and unconditional donations, mostly of feed and supplies and the odd cash donation which goes directly to running the Sanctuary and those kind souls have given in trust. In honouring that trust we are open for visits pretty much any time with an hour or so’s notice for those who wish to “inspect” the facilities. In fact we encourage you to come out…pack a picnic…stay awhile! I’ll supply the coffee (it is organic free trade so you can enjoy guilt free).
We do need cash and supplies of course, in order to operate and save as many animals as possible from abandonment and sale to unscrupulous buyers and breeders not to mention a sad death at the end of a syringe or worse. All donations are put toward bettering the facility and its upkeep.
We try to make living conditions as comfortable and cozy as possible for the animals who live here, both the permanent residents and those who may be adopted. The dogs sleep with family members, the outdoor cats have a cozy shelter, the bunnies live indoors all year round, the birds live in the largest possible cages we can acquire for them. Everybody gets fresh fruits and veggies every day…even the dogs, who are carrot junkies. This is also our home so we don’t want gross smells emanating all around for our own sakes as well as the animals. Cages are kept clean and sweet smelling, hence we go through a lot of bedding. Animals are given massage therapy and T-touch sessions. And if Chester had his way, fetch would be played all 24 hours of every day instead of the roughly 18 hours played with him now!
If a tax receipt is a requirement, however, we encourage you to donate to another worthy cause such as the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Greenpeace or the WWF. But please don’t think that your money is going anywhere but to better the living conditions of the animals we take in. If you know of someone else helping those who cannot help themselves, please help them out too.

Please feel free to contact us any time if you have questions pertaining to this or any other matter.
