There are many who would scoff at the idea of Faeries, thinking of this as a childish fancy. “Fairy” lore has, however, been a part of our existence since almost the beginning. There have always been myths, legends and whisperings of strange beings who haunt hill and dale, forest and stream, tricking the unwary, helping the humble and courageous and being downright nasty to those they feel deserve a bit of a lesson.

About the Faeries at Autumn Hollow |

Now when we say Faerie (or Fey) we are not talking of the wee cute flower children with butterfly wings that permeated Victorian nursery rhymes and children’s books. Oh no. We are talking about a race of beings that have lived in the same time and sometimes space with ourselves. And they are far from cute. Every culture has its version of them and it is a fascinating topic when one learns that the stories have such great similarities over great time and distance. From the Manitou of the North American Native people to the Good Folk of the Irish to the spirits of Asian culture and the Trolls of Norway.
Many people think that you must see to believe, which of course is absolute nonsense as anyone with a whisker of brains will tell you. Sometimes it is the believing that allows you to see…to be able to open your eyes, pry your head from the barrel of sand into which you have stuck it and see things as they really and truly are. This applies to so many of the things that we do here at the Hollow.

Now being of Irish and Roma (Gypsy) descent likely gives us an edge in the belief department. But it is often said by those who have never visited Autumn Hollow previously that there is a special sort of feeling here as soon one crosses the borders. Like the place is blessed. And we would have to agree. But then, we wholly believe that this is not only possible but even likely. We have seen some pretty strange and fantastic things that are unexplainable by most people’s ordinary standards. In our minds this is no coincidence. We are very careful to leave offerings out for the Good Folk. Honey cakes and a bit of Guinness now and again go a long way for the wee folk! We believe that, in return for the favour, this land is especially blessed. You may think this is superstition but come out and walk the woods one day. You will see what we mean. There is magick here, and no doubt about it. To us all life is sacred…from the lowliest shrub to the most majestic tree. Each thing has spirit and must be honoured thus. And we share this Earth with more than we can see through mundane eyes.
In our shop you will find many things that reflect the magic that is found here at Autumn Hollow. We hope you will come out to visit our little showroom or come by for one of our open houses or just order here from the site. We’re sure you won’t be disappointed!
